Hi everyone from our 1st blog entry for 2013, the off season has been & now nearly gone, so its heads down to get everything ready for what is shaping up to be another bumper season for Damai Bungalows. We look forward to showing our punters all the surf Sumatra‘s southwestern coast has to offer
We’ve now been back since mid January after a short break down to Bali then a trip through Java on our way back home. Anybody interested in tripping around Java we can now recommend that train travel is an easy, stress free way to get around the island. Clean, stress free & cheap, taking the 1st class train is an easy way to check out the countryside often missed when flying. We should note that surfboards in 1st class is a no go, but effecient cargo trains can take your boards cheaply to be picked up at your destination. Worth a thought anyway.
Ok, down to the nitty gritty, we’ve been busy making some improvements for the up-coming season. anything built out of wood up here doesn;t last long with the humidity & wet season, so out with the old wooden verandahs & rails & in with the new tiled version. We’ve also been working on the front lawn shamozzle. We’ve ripped up the existing weed pit, levelled it, added new mountain dirt, put some runners in & added some paths. Hopefully soon the outlook from the common area to the waves out from will be a little nicer for our punters. We’re also just started re-doing upstairs into an elevated chill zone, cool tiled floor with some lounges & tables so our guests have a confortable area to watch the waves, read a book or just relax & watch the sunsets. Upstairs catches all available breeze so is sure to be a popular hang out spot during the season. here’s a couple of photo’s
So far the surf Sumatra‘s coast has thrown us has been really good. Of coarse there has been a few wet & windy days but on average the couple of punters we’ve had have been able to get some great uncrowded surf. Conditions & knowing them well is a neccesity, especially during the fringe seasons. With 11+ years experience surfing this region we like to think we’re a step ahead of the others in finding waves when it appears there is none. Those that have stayed with us before will know that between abysmal internet & a general preference to surf rather than take pictures, we dont always get shots of the waves we get, below are some snaps we’ve taken out front so far this season, but by no means the not only ones. Should you choose to stay with us, bring your camera & snap away, you’ll probably get more shots than we do. That is if you ever get out of the water…..
Thats about it for our 1st update for the season, we have strong bookings so far for the 2013, early season spots still exsist as well as after July. If you are considering Damai for your surf trip this year, please inquire as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. So from Ayu & all the staff here at the happiest little surf camp Sumatra has to offer, we look forward to meeting you all, getting some waves together & generally having a rocking good time…..
we’ll try to get back to you regularly this season to keep you up to date…..hopefully 😉
Many Thanks…… Ayu & staff @ Damai Bungalows………
